Apple Officially Announces Media Event On September 12th, Next-Gen iPhone To Be Called iPhone 5

If you have been keeping up with your Apple-related rumors you would realize that the widely believed date for the iPhone 5 announcement was September 12th. This date was reported by various media publications like AllThingsD, The Loop and The Verge to be indeed correct. In case you were still skeptical about this date you will be glad to know that today Apple has sent out invites for a media event happening on September 12th at the Yerba Buena Center (San Francisco) for the Arts at 10:00 am.

Apple September 12th Event Announced
As you can see in the image above reads “it’s almost here,” has the number 12 representing the date of the event and a shadow of the number 5. What does this shadow represent? Well, the iPhone 5 of course! It looks like we have not only got confirmation that Apple is indeed hosting a media event on September 12th, but that the next-generation iPhone will indeed be called the iPhone 5; not the new iPhone or just iPhone.
From persistent rumors we can expect the iPhone 5 to be a radical re-design from previous generations of the iPhone. It will most likely include a larger 4-inch screen that will allow for an extra row of icons, a dual-tone backplate, better hardware (CPU, RAM, Camera), and iOS 6 of course.
For those of you hoping for Apple to announce the iPad Mini at this event you will most likely be disappointed. It is widely believed that the fruit company will hold a separate event in October.
